An Insight into the Creativity of the English Department

Miss Eldridge was incredibly proud of her Year 9 students as they produced a remarkable collection of original poems inspired by their recent study of Romeo and Juliet.
The class explored themes such as love, conflict, fate and loyalty, using Shakespeare’s language and ideas as a springboard for their own creative expression.

Students spent time analysing key scenes in the play before experimenting with structure, imagery and symbolism to craft poems that reflect both their understanding of the text and their ability to write with individuality and flair. Their work shows maturity, imagination and a developing confidence in shaping poetic voice.

The pieces shared today come from Ailbe, Sam, William and Daniel, each offering a unique interpretation of the play’s themes. These examples highlight not only their skill but also the hard work and passion they have brought to their English lessons this term.

This is a wonderful celebration of what thoughtful teaching and engaged learning can produce. Well done Year 9.
