The launch of the student voice came in September 2023 with the intent to embed student leadership at the heart of school culture by providing meaningful opportunities for students to shape their learning environment, champion key issues and represent the views of their peers.

The Student Voice achieves this via the intricate structure around four key strands: Environment and Facilities, Student Experiences, Teaching and Learning, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

The team has grown significantly from seven members in 2023–24 to twenty in the current academic year, with meetings scheduled two to three times per module.

Students contribute to community events such as primary school sports days, fundraising drives, fetes, personal development quizzes and culture awareness assemblies, including those celebrating VE Day. Feedback mechanisms include the ‘We like it when…’ bulletin campaign, college competitions and termly student-led events.

The impact that the Student Voice team has had in this short space of time has seen them lead multiple successful fundraising efforts in 2024-25 by donating £272 for Young Minds, £330 for Action for Children and over £200 for Charlie’s Promise. They have created, delivered and donated 22 hampers, 20 family gift packs and 6 sacks of toys to local families, actively supporting the wider community through their work with Dartford deeds Not Words charity.

Through local primary school collaborations, the team have supported joint charity projects and cultural events. Student Voice also launched inter-college sport competitions, including tag rugby and a termly quiz, which have helped strengthen college identity and community spirit, alongside the termly college quizzes delivered in the celebration assemblies.

They are also responsible for the researching and confirming of guest speakers such as Temi Afolabi and former professional footballer and Olympian Claire Rafferty inspired students, promoting diversity and inclusion.
