Dear Parents and Guardians, I am writing to share with you a truly moving message of thanks that Leigh UTC Dartford has received from Charlie’s Promise Charity following our fundraising and awareness campaign last term. This charity was founded in memory of Charlie, who tragically lost his life to knife crime, and whose family have dedicated themselves to educating young people and their families on the dangers and impact of this issue. We are very proud of the generosity and compassion shown by our school community in raising both funds and awareness for such an important cause. Below, you will find the heartfelt message we received from Charlie’s Promise:
Dear all at Leigh UTC Dartford,
On behalf of everyone at Charlie’s Promise, we would like to say a huge thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone at Leigh UTC Dartford for your amazing fundraising efforts last term. We have been extremely touched by the support from schools, teachers, parents and most importantly students since losing Charlie and it is heartwarming that you have all taken the time to not only raise valuable funds so that we can keep our promise to Charlie, but you have also helped us raise the much needed awareness about the growing issue of knife crime in the UK. Knife crime is increasing year on year and our young people deserve better.
As you know I made a promise to Charlie whilst he lay fighting for his life that I would spend the rest of my life educating young people on the dangers and immeasurable impacts of knife crime and I will not stop. If it can happen to Charlie – a young lad who had never had a fight, he preferred silly dancing and making people laugh – it can happen to anyone.
The money you raised will help us to continue to share Charlie’s story across the UK, educating young people on the dangers and the immeasurable impacts of knife crime and how to report knife carriers anonymously. We are also listening to our young people who are telling us that they want somewhere to go, something to do and someone to listen so please watch this space as Charlie’s Promise continues in our fight against knife crime.
Please keep talking about Charlie, share his story and help us create a legacy for him to try and help prevent another young person from losing their life and their family and friends from living with the devastating impacts of which there are no words to describe.
Above all, thank you all for helping me keep my promise to Charlie. With very best wishes Martin, Tara, Adam, Charlie and Eloise xxxxx
